Painting a Driveway

After renovating the inside of our house my husband and I decided to then concentrate on the outside.  One of our eyesores was the concrete, we needed to replace parts of the driveway and then paint or seal the driveway and garden paths.
We looked for concrete suppliers in Wollongong as we also needed steel reinforcement from a supplier in Wollongong.
We prefer to shop local and wanted a concrete supplier in Wollongong that was happy to give us advice and products for our Do-It-Yourself projects.
We soon realised that we liked the idea of coloured concrete so then starting searching online for Decorative Concrete and soon came across ICR Concrete Supplies in Albion Park.
ICR stocked the steel reinforcement and has delivery throughout Wollongong and gave us a lot of tips and tricks that saved us not only time but money.
After replacing and slightly extending paths around with steel reinforcement and concrete we wanted to clean up our Wollongong home with a consistent concrete colour.

How to painta Driveway?
Based on our experience we wanted to give others that are embarking on the same project some information on how we achieved the amazing results we did before they approach concrete suppliers in Wollongong themselves.
Step 1
Preparing the surface
Firstly we used a high pressure water blaster to clean the concrete area that we treated, we were recommended for previously sealed surfaces to scrub with Nutech Solvent, this guarantees adhesion, however we had very old, hard sealer so was scrubbed the concrete with Nutech Reactivating Solvent which worked a treat.
Step 2
Protecting areas around the surface
We used masking tape and taped around the edges, especially at the bottom of the garage doors so we didn’t paint over them by accident.
Step 3
Choosing the best product
After lots of research we chose Nutech PaveCoat not only is it a well-known brand but we also wanted to get the job done quickly and economically.  Also we are not renovating the flip the house, this is our home so wanted the new surface that we created to last. Nutech PaveCoat is manufactured from acrylic polymer resins so we were able to use it for the footpaths, driveway and we also used it for the workshop floor in the garage.
Step 4
Choosing a colour
PaveCoat comes in 36 colours as standard but you can actually also get a custom tint with a choice of finishes, low sheen, semi-gloss or high-gloss finish.
Step 5
Preparing the application
The first coat of coloured sealer we diluted with Nutech Thinners to assist penetration into the concrete.
Step 6
Applying the Coloured Sealer
We started by painting the edges and detailed areas with a paint brush before using a roller.
The surface after application was touch dry in 30 minutes.
After the second coat we let the surface cure for seven days before driving our cars on it.
The result is amazing.
